Etienné was always a quiet kid. He focused more on his drawings in class rather than making connections in school. People picked on him for that all throughout grade school and secondary, which caused him to turn himself into more a social recluse than anything else. It didn't help that, unlike most of the kids in his school, he had a much more French oriented name.He was born to a French mother and Candian father, residing in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Unlike Quebec, not a lot of people in this province had a French background. Considering that, children would pick on Etienné just for his French heritage. And so, up until 7th grade, he kept to himself.That's where he met Sam. Sam was in his year, in his art class, and took an immediate liking to Etienné. They were polar opposites, Sam talking his ear off whenever he possibly could, but he finally had a friend. Someone who took a serious liking to him and meant that.The two had grew close throughout the rest of middle school and high school, Etienné learning to come out of his shell a little bit and partaking in art shows alongside Sam and earning 5 scholarships by the time his senior year came around. None from the university he wanted, but he was still happy with that nonetheless.In the summer following his 18th birthday and graduation, he had planned to display his own piece in an art show that could really put himself on the radar of many agencies and major artists in Victoria. He wanted Sam to go alongside with him, hoping that he could be there to see the piece he had spent months working on. But Sam was nowhere to be found. Instead of going to his art show, Etienné took this time to search the city instead, hearing his name called in a back alley during his search."Val.." In Sam's voice called to him through the darkness of the alleyway and Etienné had to ensure the other's safety. He ran towards the calls for help, a black fog surrounding him and dragging him into the darkness where Sam may or may not be.~Funnily enough, when Etienné was in high school, he had found that he was developing feelings for Sam. As close as they had gotten, he realized that he felt the same way for him as his mother did for his father. Sure, he had met some people here and there thanks to Sam and even the various art shows he had gone to, but.. it was always Sam.Sam was a very straight guy, though. Called Etienné his brother from another mother, had plenty of girlfriends despite being in the art class. But it led Etienné down a journey of discovery. Sam wasn't the only guy he found himself looking at, though he was the only one with genuine feeling behind it.Despite knowing that the two would never be together, however, hearing his voice in the foggy alley made him realize that if he didn't go to save him then, he would never get a chance to properly tell him how much he meant to him. So even though he was never found in the fog after Etienné arrived, he would have rather taken the risk of going and seeing him again than letting him die because he was too scared to find him. Too scared to chase after the calls for help.
